Student fashion show raises hundreds for local hospice

Clarendon Sixth Form College students raise vital funds for local charity hospice with fashion show.

Fashion level three students raised an astonishing £820 for Willow Wood Hospice with a fashion show and sample sale on Wednesday 6th May, which took place in the college’s atrium area.

Willow Wood is a well known local charity which provides vital palliative care for people living with life limiting illnesses in the Tameside area and beyond. The charity regularly works with the college on projects to raise funds for its services.

Students and staff from across the college attended the event, which used clothes and accessories kindly donated by fashion brand Pretty Little Thing.

During the show, donated clothes were also on sale for guests to purchase, with all funds being donated to the charity.

Fashion students organised the event alongside Clarendon Sixth Form College’s employability team, putting together a variety of outfits and styles. Alongside supporting Willow Wood Hospice, the event also provided students with vital experience of the industry, helping them to develop organisational, teamwork and creative skills.

Alongside fashion students, hair and beauty and photography students also assisted with the event, working alongside the models taking to the catwalk.

Sean Somers, employability and partnership coordinator at Clarendon Sixth Form College, said: “This event was a fantastic opportunity for learners to work collaboratively on a live project while supporting an incredible local charity. The learners showed real professionalism, creativity and commitment throughout and the funds raised are a testament to their hard work.”

Julie Wilson, retail manager at Willow Wood Hospice, said: “At Willow Wood Hospice, we have to raise 70% of our funds to provide vital services and care ourselves. We have a fantastic working relationship with the college and want to thank all the students involved with us for working so hard and raising money to help us keep operating.”
