This course will teach you the full development pipeline and will help get you ready for getting a job in this amazing and thriving industry.
You’ll develop skills in core aspects of the creation of animation and video games including:
- Working on concept art to design characters and environments.
- Learn to create 3D models of what you design.
- Create your own textures and materials to put onto your 3D models.
- Animating characters to bring them to life.
- Take your creations and bring them into a game engine and use them to develop video games and animations.
The Animation and Game Art course offers a professional workspace for you to work with regular one-on-one feedback, industry experienced lecturers and links to both industry and higher education.
You will learn the theory and the fundamental knowledge and specialist skills for animation and game art including concept art, character design, 3D modelling, 2D and 3D animation, material authoring, digital sculpting and rendering; you will also develop your interpersonal skills such as project management and using the creative process. You will work with high specification resources including Wacom screen tablets and industry standard software including Adobe 3D Suite, Photoshop, Maya, Blender and Unreal Engine.
You are required to have 4 GCSE’s grade 9 to 4 including Maths and/or English.
A demonstratable interest in Animation or Game Art or a GCSE in a creative subject.
A successful interview with an Animation and Game Art Lecturer including a portfolio of work.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Good drawing ability, design skills and confident computer skills are desirable.
he course is 100% coursework being assessed through a series of projects, giving you a real taster to how a game or animation studio works.
You have 2 projects in the first year and 2 projects in the second year.
The course is graded as pass, merit, distinction, distinction*
On successful completion of this course, you will have a portfolio of work that is unique to your art style, choice of skills, and intended next steps in the industry, whether that is to progress to Higher Education, Internships, Employment or Freelancing.
