Course content & format

Are you passionate about art, design, and media? This full-time, immersive creative program offers the perfect opportunity to explore and expand your interests. You'll develop and challenge your imagination within a structured environment that builds a strong foundation of skills and knowledge. The course aims to boost your self-confidence while helping you understand the career opportunities and demands in the creative industries. No formal art experience needed. Additionally, all students are required to maintain 100% attendance in GCSE Mathematics and/or English resits, as well as in Tutorial sessions.

Your unique experience

The BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Creative Industries runs over one year and involves a number of practical briefs to help you build a strong portfolio—perfect for moving on to a Level 2 course. You’ll also get the chance to go on trips, including visits to local galleries in Manchester, helping boost your creativity, confidence, and personal development. Most students go on to study the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design, Creative Media, or Animation & Graphics—but there are lots of different paths you can take next.

Taught by a team of creative professionals with real experience in specialist subjects, this course is designed to be varied, hands-on, and inspiring—helping set you up for a successful future in the creative industries. Based in the heart of Ashton Town Centre at Clarendon College, you'll have access to industry-standard facilities, including four art studios, a TV studio, DSLR cameras, and sound recording gear. Our art and design spaces let you work in both small and large formats across a wide range of materials like drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles/fashion and 3D design.

Entry Qualifications

Level 1 (Foundation)

3 GCSE grades 1 or above

Successful interview with a creative tutor and induction task. (bring some examples of your own work to talk about)

Good verbal and written communication

How is this course assessed?

100% Coursework.

This is a graded course where you can achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction and is internally assessed. The course is designed with units of work that explore your practical, contextual and life skills. The highlight of the year is the Creative exhibition, held every June to celebrate the achievements for all of our creative learners.
