Course content & format

Discover the basics of photography and begin building confidence with a camera in a supportive and creative environment. This course is designed for absolute beginners who want to learn the fundamentals of photography for personal interest, creative development or as a first step towards further study.

Key areas include:

  ●  Understanding basic camera functions and settings

  ●  Learning how to take clear, well-composed photographs

  ●  Exploring composition, lighting and viewpoint

  ●  Developing confidence when photographing different subjects

  ●  Introduction to digital editing using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom

  ●  Learning how to review, select and present your best images

Sessions are practical and workshop-based, combining demonstrations, tutor guidance, hands-on photography activities and opportunities to build confidence through simple creative projects.

Introduction / Beginner

No formal entry requirements. This course is designed for absolute beginners.

All you need is an interest in photography, a willingness to learn and enthusiasm for trying something new.

How is this course assessed?

Assessment is through practical work completed across the course. There are no formal exams.

You will build a portfolio of photographs, short tasks and project work that demonstrates your developing skills and growing confidence. Evidence may include:

  ●  completed photography exercises and short projects

  ●  selected images showing technical and creative progress

  ●  planning and development work

  ●  evaluation, reflection and notes from feedback

Your tutor will provide ongoing feedback to help you improve your skills and achieve the best possible outcomes.

What can I do next?

On successful completion you could:

  ●  Progress to a Level 1 or beginner photography course

  ●  Continue developing photography as a hobby or personal interest
