Level 3 Fashion & Textiles

Course content & format

Do you love fashion? Do you imagine yourself working in the industry as a designer, a stylist, or even a costume designer? This course is designed to excite, engage, and support you to achieve your dream future.

With us you will explore all aspects of the industry from concept design to production, supported and guided by industry experienced specialist staff. In our purpose built studios you will have access to industrial standard equipment and resources, as well as CAD software to develop your full potential as a creative of tomorrow.

As part of the course you will also complete work experience within industry, previous placements have included Boohoo and Missguided, with new links developing all the time. You will also have the chance to take part in national and international competitions in costume design.

Previous alumni have gone on to study at prestigious universities, going on to work at JD Sports, Chloé, and in theatres across the nation.

Your unique experience

You will learn in parallel streams of design and construction simultaneously; there is never a dull moment. You will cover trend forecasting, range design and development, fashion branding, specialist pattern cutting and garment construction, textile design and development, and presentation and portfolio techniques.

Staff are experts in their field, with industry experience, and a proven track record of high levels of success, and work to develop and nurture each individual student to their fullest potential as creatives and young people.

Each year students have access to a range of trips to enhance their learning experience, with recent destinations including Paris, New York and Berlin. Additional live research opportunities take place throughout the year to engage you with industry at all levels.

The highlight of each year is the End of Year Fashion Show where students display their creations on the runway to family, friends and stakeholders, celebrating their achievements throughout the year. This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with students from across the college in Photography, Media, and Hair & Makeup.

Entry Qualifications

You are required to have 4 GCSEs grade 9 to 4 including maths and/or English.

A creative GCSE is highly recommended.

Successful interview with a fashion tutor.

How is this course assessed?

The course is 100% coursework and assessed internally.

You will be assigned a brief at the start of each project that will introduce you to a real world scenario and take you on a creative journey that will develop your skills. You will be supported through specialist workshops and tutorials.

What can I do next?

After completing this course, students go on to higher education to study on courses within fashion and textiles related subjects including, but not limited to, Fashion Design, Fashion Communication, Costume Design and Textile Design. Please ask our staff about further higher education study options at one of our open events.

Students can also progress onto an apprenticeship, or degree apprenticeship, within the creative industries. You will have access to our Futures and Careers teams for advice and guidance on how to search and apply for these options.
