Tyler and Milli look forward to Cambridge programme

Tyler Scanlon and Milli Owens, A level students at Clarendon Sixth Form College, both secure places on the prestigious ‘Sutton Trust’ programme with Cambridge University.

The Sutton Trust is a charity which aims to improve access to Russell Group universities, for students from all backgrounds. Only a select number of students are accepted onto the programme.

Both students have successfully applied to take part in the trust’s summer school, in August, to find out more about studying at the university.

Founded in 1209, Cambridge University is the second highest ranking university in the world and has many notable alumni which includes: prime ministers, Nobel laureates, leading scientists and Olympic gold medal winners.

During the programme, Tyler and Milli will be set tasks by tutors, take part in virtual lectures and seminars with leading academics and visit Cambridge University for a one week residential stay. Tyler will be studying history whilst Milli will study biological sciences.

Tyler, who is a former Oasis Academy Oldham pupil, said: “I am very pleased to be accepted onto the Sutton Trust programme. I’m hoping that it will prepare me for university and also allow me to decide if Cambridge University is where I would like to study. I am also looking forward to studying history as a topic, in more depth and learning new things.”

Irina Arsenovic, tutorial tutor at Clarendon Sixth Form College, said: “It is wonderful to see two of our students accepting a place on such a prestigious study programme. Tyler and Milli will gain a huge range of skills by taking their learning to the next level and it is definitely something that will boost their careers in the future. I wish them the best of luck with their studies.”
