College partners charity in Christmas appeal

Clarendon Sixth Form College has launched its annual toy appeal with the help of local charity, Action Together.

The aim of the toy appeal is to give the children and teenagers of Tameside, who live in poverty, a present this Christmas.

Gifts suitable for teenagers are preferred this year. However, gifts for all ages are welcome. Gift ideas include: toiletries, craft sets, books, games and gift vouchers. Clothes such as scarves, gloves and hats will also be accepted. A donation box is based in the atrium of the college, with unwrapped gifts only to be donated.

Action Together offers a range of support when it comes to strengthening communities. The charity encourage local people and businesses to give their time and skills to support good causes around Tameside and Oldham.

Jackie Moores, Principal said: “Our staff and students really enjoy being part of the Tameside toy appeal each year. As a college and as individuals we get a lot of satisfaction from knowing we are doing our small part in helping others.

We recognise there are some families who are finding it more difficult than ever during the pandemic.

Our staff and students are donating gifts for all age groups but we have particularly asked them to prioritise young teenagers. Our staff have encouraged their friends and families to donate to our collection point too.”

The deadline for donations to the collection is Friday 4th December. Action Together will collect the toy donations and distribute them to local children’s centres in Tameside.
