A-level Students at Clarendon Sixth Form College take part in ‘question time’ event with top politician.
Chief whip of the house of commons Jonathan Reynolds MP recently visited the college for a Q&A discussion on politics and public policy.
During the visit, students studying A-level government and politics had the opportunity to question the senior MP on a wide range of topics, including the state of UK politics, the NHS, the justice system, healthcare, voting age reform and his role as chief whip. He also spoke about his own career journey, how he became an MP and the people who have inspired him throughout his life.
The interactive session gave students a valuable opportunity to engage with one of the country’s most influential policymakers, encouraging debate and critical thinking around real world political issues.
The visit also allowed students to put theory work into practice and complete vital research for their studies.
Jonathan said: “It was great to spend time with students at Clarendon Sixth Form College and answer their questions on a wide range of political topics. The students had clearly put a lot of effort into preparing for the session and I really enjoyed the discussion. Thank you to the staff and students for such a warm welcome.”
Vicky Heywood, A-level government and politics teacher at Clarendon Sixth Form College, said: “It was fantastic for our students to meet one of the most important policymakers in the country and to be excited about politics outside of the classroom. Experiences like this help bring politics to life and inspire students to engage more confidently with the world around them. Thank you to Jonathan for taking time out of his busy schedule to come to the college.”
The visit forms part of the college’s ‘Futures’ programme, which is designed to enrich the curriculum and provide students with meaningful opportunities beyond the classroom, helping them to achieve to the highest standard and stand the best chance of a successful career.
