This course consists of 8 units covering Biology, Chemistry and Physics topic areas.
Unit 1: Principles of Science
Unit 2: Chemistry and Our Earth
Unit 3: Energy and Our Universe
Unit 4: Biology and Our Environment
Unit 5: Applications of Chemical Substances
Unit 6: Applications of Physical Science
Unit 7: Health Applications of Life Science
Unit 8: Scientific Skills
The Level 2 qualification will give you a solid foundational understanding of the core areas of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, which will allow you progress onto further studies in Science. During this course you will also gain and develop the necessary scientific practical skills by conducting experiments and investigations in the laboratory. You will plan and carry out a range of experiments using specialist equipment and apparatus. You will learn through a variety of teaching methods which will aim to meet the needs of each individual and accommodate different learning styles for example, case studies, assessments, group work, practical work, projects, extended writing and interactive activities.
3 GCSEs grade 3 including a grade 3 in a Science subject.
Units 1 and 8 will be assessed externally through written examinations. All other units will be assessed internally through assignments, presentations and practical work.
Students who achieve Merits can progress into the L3 Applied Science course, which is the equivalent of A Level qualifications. Students may also wish to progress to another L3 course such as Health and Social Care, Engineering, Animal Management, Sport and many more.
