Course content & format

Do you have an interest in art, design and media, and wish to explore and extend this interest via a full-time, immersive learning experience? Students will develop and test their creativity within a structure that will provide a sound base of skills and knowledge, while enhancing self-confidence and revealing the potential career demands and opportunities within art, design and media.

Your unique experience

Delivered by a range of creative professionals, who are experienced at delivering specialist creative subjects, your time on the course will be varied, engaging and motivate you towards a very successful future. This course is housed in the heart of Ashton Town Centre and our facilities and equipment are of industry standard, including: TV studio, DSLR cameras and sound recording equipment. Within art and design we have studios that can facilitate work on small and large scale, including print and laser work. The fashion department will give you opportunity to use our industry standard and domestic machines, including a heat transfer press. We are also able to boast two photography studios, a dark room and numerous high spec PC suites. This is a course that gives you access and opportunity by the bucket load!

The BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Creative Industries is delivered over one year and will enable you to develop a portfolio of work that could support progression into a range of qualifications at Level 2. Typically, students will progress to the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design, the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media, Production and Technology or the UAL Diploma in Performing Arts however some students may also progress onto a different course completely.

Entry Qualifications

Level 1 (Foundation) - 3 GCSEs grade 1 or above.

Successful interview with a creative tutor (bring some examples of your work to talk about).

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Good drawing skills are a requirement bonus.

How is this course assessed?

100% Coursework.

This is a graded course where you can achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction. The course is designed with units of work that explore your practical and contextual skills creative skills. The highlight of the year is the Creative exhibition, held every June to celebrate the achievements for all of our learners.
